"It was October on Little St. Simon's Island when I saw the cloud. It was alive. At times dense, the cloud would expand seeming to evaporate, only to reform. Then it came to earth literally, darkening the deserted beach. I was witnessing a natural event in a natural place... nothing but tree swallows and their world. Doing my best not to disturb or offend them, I moved very slowly along the beach. As I did, the swallows paid me little mind. Birds were at my feet, gliding by at arm's length, and above me to some 100 feet. I was in the cloud. What a blessing it was to spend a day on a lonely beach with thousands of close friends."

John Sill's work has appeared in a number of magazines, including Bird Watcher's Digest, Natural History, South Carolina Wildlife, and American Artist's Watercolor as well as in several books. He has also illustrated and co-written (along with his wife, Cathy, and his brother, Ben) three birding parodies.

A limited edition of 300 prints has been created in a horizontal format. The actual image size is 14" x 10", the matted size is 18" x 14", and the framed sized is approximately 20" x 16". Each print is signed and numbered by the artist. The full-color reproduction is printed on a neutral pH, acid-free paper.
