This Purple Martin House is built with high grade Red cedar that is naturally bug, and rot resistant. There is only one room per story on each side, with a total of 6 rooms in the house. Because there is only one room per porch, the issue of male purple martin porch dominance is diminished. Also each room is enlarged to a 11" x 10" x 10" triangle shape. It was once believed that 6" x6" rooms were the perfect size for Purple Martins, however it is now determined that rooms larger than this give the newly born Purple Martins a higher survival rate, just by having larger rooms. Entrance fronts unscrew as needed for end of year nest cleaning though we recommend modifications to allow for nest access. Round openings are 2 1/8 inches. House is fully assemble with high quality screws. This flat bottomed house is meant to be mounted on a pedestal and comes unpainted. Pedestal and post in photo are not included. Overall house dimensions are 21" x 11" x14".
Do NOT mount on a metal pole due to the weight of this house which is 18 pounds.
